• An expansion, Combat Mission: Black Sea - Battle Pack 1, was released in January 2021 on Steam by Slitherine Ltd.
• User-created scenarios, maps, and campaigns can be found at the Scenario Depot III.
• A free demo was offered with two playable scenarios, a tutorial mission, and a functioning scenario editor.

Plot

Following the 2014 events in Crimea and eastern Ukraine, tensions between Kyiv and Russia escalated when Ukraine announced it would join NATO and the EU. Russia massed troops on the border, and Western governments mobilized. A major firefight in the Donetsk region in summer 2017 led to broader fighting, and pre-positioned Russian and NATO troops entered Ukraine in June 2017.

Overview

Players command American, Ukrainian, or Russian ground forces in a detailed 3D environment, with units ranging from battalion size and below. New features include electronic warfare, unmanned aerial vehicles, and laser-guided weapons. US drones can provide thermal imaging of the battlefield.

Content

The game includes a campaign of linked scenarios, pre-made battles, and Quick Battle maps for random play. Three story campaigns cover all sides: Ukrainian defense near Kyiv, US counterattack near Kyiv, and Russian crossing of the Dnipro River. A map and scenario editor, plus a campaign creation tool, shipped with the game.
