Story

In 2003, scientists created the perfect soldier through genetic engineering. Centuries of technological advances gave these soldiers sentience, allowing them to make decisions independently. Three groups designed to protect humanity revolted after becoming self-aware. Four factions now fight for control of Earth over 400 years after the breakthrough. This war decides humanity's fate and sets the stage for the sequel War 3010: The Revolution. The mysterious Kyllen intergalactic force later occupies the universe nearly 200 years after this game's story.

Gameplay

The player commands the Global Defense Alliance across twenty missions. The primary objective is total annihilation of M.A.R.S., the Orcs, and the Cromes, the latter being self-sentient combat robots. Capturing a lab allows construction of a superweapon to destroy other factions; some missions require capturing enemy bases. There is no time limit on missions. Each side has infantry, tanks, and air force. Military-style medals are earned through acts of bravery. A complete map is viewable via radar intelligence probe. Later missions often cover more than one quadrant of the 16-grid radar screen.
