Omega Lock

The device capable of restoring life to a dead world or transforming Earth into Cybertron.

In the animated series Transformers: Prime, set within the Aligned continuity, the Omega Lock is a critical Iacon relic used to restore life to the planet Cybertron. The artifact consists of four specific keys that must be gathered to power the main device. While both the Autobots and Decepticons hunt these relics throughout Season 2, the Lock becomes the central objective as each faction races to secure them. Megatron seeks to use it to "cyberform" Earth into a replica of Cybertron, while Optimus Prime aims to prevent this destruction. The stakes are highest when Starscream steals three keys from the Autobots and delivers them to Megatron in exchange for clemency, leaving only one key with Team Prime.

Lore & Background

The Omega Lock is comprised of four Iacon relics known as the Omega Keys. Throughout Season 2, the Autobots and Decepticons engage in a fierce hunt for these components. The narrative reveals that Starscream managed to retrieve some keys before either main faction could secure them all. In a pivotal turn, Starscream steals three of the keys from the Autobots and hands them over, along with the fourth key he possessed, to Megatron. This transfer occurs as part of a deal where Megatron grants Starscream clemency for his past treachery. The Lock's intended function is to restore life to Cybertron, but its power also allows for the transformation of other planets, specifically Earth, into a duplicate of the home world if activated by an antagonist.

In Their Own Story

The conflict over the Omega Keys reaches its peak in Season 2 as Megatron utilizes the Forge of Solus Prime to create the Dark Star Saber. With all four keys secured through Starscream's betrayal, Megatron gains access to the Lock's full potential. The Decepticons successfully use the device to construct a new base on Earth called Darkmount at the start of Season 3. However, the Autobots do not surrender; they utilize the Forge, which was stolen by the disillusioned Dreadwing and given to Team Prime, to transform their Ground Bridge into a Space Bridge. This allows them to travel to Cybertron in search of the Lock itself. In the season finale, Optimus Prime makes the ultimate sacrifice to stop Megatron's plan. He destroys the Omega Lock entirely to prevent the Decepticons from using it to "cyberform" Earth, choosing the destruction of the artifact over the transformation of the planet.

Reader's Guide

To utilize the Omega Lock, one must first locate and assemble all four Omega Keys hidden as Iacon relics on Earth. In Season 2, Starscream intervenes by stealing three keys from the Autobots before they could retrieve them. The fourth key is also secured by Starscream, who then gives the complete set to Megatron in exchange for forgiveness. Once assembled, the Lock can be activated to either restore Cybertron or cyberform a new world like Earth. In the series, the device was used by the Decepticons to build their base, Darkmount. To counter this, Team Prime obtained the Forge of Solus Prime from Dreadwing, allowing them to travel to Cybertron. Ultimately, the only way to stop Megatron's plan was for Optimus Prime to destroy the Omega Lock completely during the events leading into Season 3.
