Lore & Background

The game is set in the Old World of the Warhammer Fantasy universe, one year after the Great War against Chaos. Chaos warbands have scattered, some raiding the northern fringes of the Empire, which is undermanned and struggling to protect isolated farms and villages. The game features two single-player campaigns, one following the Empire and Elven forces and the other the Hordes of Chaos and Skaven forces, each separated into four chapters.

Reader's Guide

Warhammer: Mark of Chaos focuses on battlefield tactics, de-emphasizing base-building and resource management. Players command units of 1 to 96 individual models, with orders issued to entire units rather than individuals. Units have morale and stamina, and can be arranged into formations conferring advantages against specific attacks. Hero units are unique individuals who can be equipped with weapons, armor, and potions, gain experience, and initiate duels with enemy heroes. The game includes four playable races: the Empire, High Elves, Hordes of Chaos, and Skaven, each with three factions available in multiplayer. Multiplayer supports up to four players via LAN or internet, with modes including normal battles, siege battles, and reinforcements mode. A model editor allows customization of individual models' appearance. The expansion Battle March added Dark Elves and Orcs & Goblins as playable races.
