Davis Schneider

Davis Schneider (born January 26, 1999) is an American professional baseball player who plays infield and outfield for the Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was selected by the Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 2017 MLB draft and made his MLB debut in 2023.

Schneider grew up in Voorhees Township, New Jersey, with his parents Steve and Elena, one brother, and two sisters. He attended Eastern Regional High School, where his mother works as a teacher. Before being drafted, he played briefly for the South Jersey Giants in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (ACBL).

The Blue Jays drafted Schneider in 2017 on the recommendation of scout John Schneider (no relation). He began his professional career that year with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Blue Jays, playing 50 games and batting .238 with four home runs and 23 RBIs. In 2018, he played for the Rookie Advanced Bluefield Blue Jays, hitting .233 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in 44 games. He split 2019 between Bluefield and the Short Season-A Vancouver Canadians, batting .263 with six home runs and 31 RBIs.

The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so he did not play. In 2021, he played for the Low-A Dunedin Blue Jays and Vancouver, batting .229 with nine home runs and 23 RBIs in 49 games. He started 2022 with Vancouver and later moved up to the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, playing a career-high 113 games and hitting .253 with 16 home runs, 56 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. He began 2023 with Buffalo, batting .275 with 21 home runs, 64 RBIs, and nine stolen bases in 87 games.

The Blue Jays called Schneider up to the majors on August 4, 2023. In his first MLB at-bat, he hit a home run off Boston Red Sox pitcher James Paxton. He became the first player in MLB history to collect nine hits—including two home runs—in his first three games, matching a modern MLB record dating to 1901. Over his first 20 MLB games, he posted a 1.358 OPS, the highest in the modern era for a player with at least 70 plate appearances. He donated his game-used debut uniform and gear to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. In 35 games for the Blue Jays in 2023, he hit .276 with eight home runs, 20 RBIs, and a 1.008 OPS.

On May 31, 2024, Schneider hit his first career walk-off home run, a 14th-inning shot against the Pittsburgh Pirates for a 5-3 win. In Game 5 of the 2025 World Series, he led off with a home run on the first pitch from Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. then homered two pitches later, making the Blue Jays the first team to start a World Series game with back-to-back home runs.

Schneider’s brother, Steven, died in 2020 at age 26 from an accidental drug overdose. His father, Steve, was in the stands at Dodger Stadium for Game 5 of the World Series and recorded Schneider’s home run; the video went viral.
