Reader's Guide

The Ghosts of 'The Howling Man' are the spectral remnants of a holy order that once guarded a demonic prisoner. Their primary role is as a warning system, their howls signaling the presence of evil and the danger of releasing it. They are not active antagonists but rather tragic figures, bound to the castle by their own devotion and failure. The ghosts are led by no single member; they are a collective of lost souls, their only goal to maintain the prison's integrity. In the conflict of the episode, they represent the consequences of faith and hubris, serving as a backdrop to the traveler's fatal mistake. Their howling is the sound of a broken covenant, a reminder that some doors should never be opened.
