Format

Twenty-two strangers show up at a castle in Spata, all of them starting as Pisti, or Faithful, contestants, each hoping to get a share of a prize fund that can reach up to €100,000. But hidden among them are the Prodotes, the Traitors, chosen by host Konstantinos Markoulakis on the very first day. Their mission is to pick off the Faithful and keep the cash for themselves. If the Faithful manage to root out every Traitor, they split the pot. If even one Traitor survives to the end, that Traitor takes it all. Every night, the Traitors huddle up and pick one Faithful to murder, and that player is gone on the spot. The Faithful don’t find out until the next morning, when the missing person doesn’t show up for breakfast. After that, the whole group does a challenge to add money to the prize fund. Some challenges let a player visit the Armoury, where one person randomly and secretly gets a Shield. That Shield protects them from being murdered, but not from being banished. If the Traitors try to murder the Shield holder, nobody gets killed that night. At the end of each day, everyone gathers at the Round Table to talk things over, then votes privately for someone to banish. Votes are revealed one by one, and whoever gets the most votes is kicked out and must reveal whether they were Faithful or a Traitor. If a Traitor gets banished, the remaining Traitors can try to recruit a Faithful. If that Faithful says yes, they become a Traitor from then on.

Production

A Greek adaptation of De Verraders was first mentioned in rumours on 22 January 2023, following Silverline Media’s acquisition of the rights. ANT1 was the expected network from the start, though the show was also pitched to Mega Channel and Star Channel. Zeta Makripoulia, a Greek actor and ANT1 regular, was the early favourite to host but turned it down to honour her theatre commitments. The series was officially picked up by ANT1, with applications opening on 16 March 2023. By 17 April 2023, Konstantinos Markoulakis—host of Survivor Greece’s third season—became the new leading candidate. He was confirmed on 24 April 2023 and began recording right away. A first teaser appeared on 28 April 2023.
