Overview

Players are tasked with redeveloping a run-down town through creative building and design. Improving the town attracts new residents, who then require homes. Customization is central, covering houses, furniture, and outfits. Players create a custom Mii-like character and can modify homes and build furniture and appliances using building blocks and blueprints, a departure from the virtual catalog of The Sims. The Wii version features 80 characters (30 in the DS version), including a mad scientist, magician, librarian, pizza chef, and martial arts teacher. Some characters request items from the player. Unlike previous Sims games, characters do not need to fulfill hunger or sleep. Becoming a Sim's best friend earns a special blueprint or clothing style. Blueprints are also earned by performing tasks for Commercial Sims, typically building 5–10 items depending on the town's Star Level and available essences. A new feature, Essences, are found in various locations or through interactions and are used for paint, construction, and decoration. The DS version includes minigames such as racquetball, paragliding, and scuba diving.

Release

MySims launched for Wii and Nintendo DS in September 2007. A PC version followed in October 2008, adding characters and online features like tag and hide-and-seek. In 2010, Taco Bell included the game with kids' meals in the United States. The MySims: Cozy Bundle, containing MySims and MySims Kingdom, released on Nintendo Switch on November 19, 2024, and on Steam and Epic Games Store on March 18, 2025. It later came to Apple Arcade on November 6, 2025, and to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 18, 2025.

Reception

The game received 'average' reviews on all platforms according to Metacritic. In Japan, the Wii version was released as Boku to Sim no Machi on September 27, 2007, and the DS version as Boku to Sim no Machi: Resort ni Genki o Torimodosō! on December 6, 2007; Famitsu scored the former 30 out of 40 and the latter 28 out of 40. IGN criticized the Wii version for objectives revolving around essence collection and construction, lacking social interaction elements. GameSpot praised the same version for intuitive construction and cheerful presentation but noted long load times. The DS version was considered a nearly new game in design, with mixed reception of its controls. GameZone gave the PC version a 7 out of 10, calling it geared toward younger players with a linear story. Edge gave the Wii version a 6 out of 10, describing residents as archetypes lacking the charm of Animal Crossing. MySims is among the best-selling Nintendo DS games, with over 4 million copies worldwide by October 2008, including 3.72 million units before year's end, earning a Guinness World Record for best-selling Sims title on a Nintendo console. By December 2008, it sold over one million units on DS in the United States. MySims: Cozy Bundle was the 19th best-selling title in November 2024 in the US and the 10th best-selling Nintendo Switch title from January 5 to February 1, 2025.
