Demon King's Army

Lore & Background

In the mythology of this realm, the existence of the Demon King is tied directly to the creation and destruction cycles of the planet. The Army acts as his vanguard, sent forth through the Waves to cleanse the land of life. Each Wave brings a new variety of threats, evolving in complexity and power over time to ensure that no single defense can permanently stop them. The hierarchy within these forces is fluid but distinct. At the bottom are mindless beasts driven by hunger and aggression. Above them lie intelligent entities known as Demon Lords, who possess strategy, speech, and unique magical abilities. These leaders often coordinate the assault during the Wave's climax, attempting to break through the defenses of the kingdoms. Despite their overwhelming numbers, the Army is not invincible. The Cardinal Weapons are forged with specific properties to counter this threat, particularly the Shield which can absorb skills and attacks from these enemies. This dynamic creates a cat-and-mouse game where the Heroes must grow stronger alongside the escalating power of the Demon King's servants.

Reader's Guide

The forces known colloquially as the Demon King's Army represent the primary antagonistic pressure within the world of the Four Cardinal Heroes. Rather than a standing military with ranks and banners, this faction manifests through the periodic Waves of Calamity that sweep across the land. Their composition varies wildly between each event, ranging from mindless beasts to intelligent Demon Lords capable of strategy and speech. Their ultimate objective remains consistent: the total destruction or resetting of the current world order. They view humanity and demi-humans alike as obstacles to be purged during these apocalyptic surges. While individual monsters operate on instinct, the overarching coordination suggests a singular will guiding them from beyond the veil. Members include summoned spirits, corrupted beasts, and occasionally fallen heroes or twisted versions of familiar races. They lack a physical capital within the human realm, spawning instead through rifts in reality. The Shield Hero and his companions are specifically tasked with countering these forces, as their weapons are designed to withstand the unique magic inherent to this enemy.
