I Live Here Now

The second season of *The Leftovers* concludes with its tenth episode, “I Live Here Now,” which first aired on HBO on December 6, 2015. The episode was co-written by series creators Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, and directed by executive producer Mimi Leder. It is the twentieth episode of the series overall.

The episode reveals what actually happened to the missing girls and clarifies the Guilty Remnant’s motivations. In a flashback, Evie and her friends begin a vow of silence as they drive to the lake, where they notice Kevin preparing to drown himself with a cinder block. Kevin jumps in, and the girls leave just before an earthquake begins. In the present, Michael finds Kevin alive in the woods, having been dead for eight hours. Kevin recalls seeing Evie on the night of the earthquake, and John confronts him after learning Kevin’s palm print is on the girls’ car. During an earthquake, Mary suddenly speaks, shocking Nora. Mary later confirms she woke up on their first night in Miracle and had sex with Matt, and learns she is pregnant. At the refugee camp, Meg rams a car and trailer through the barricades, claiming the trailer holds explosives. Evie and her friends emerge from the trailer, revealing they have joined the Guilty Remnant. John shoots Kevin dead after Kevin insists Evie faked her disappearance. John then learns Evie is alive and goes to the bridge, where Erika hugs an unresponsive Evie. The trailer is found empty, and as the countdown ends, GR members and refugees flood into Miracle. A woman steals Lily, but Nora shields her from the mob until Tom rescues them. Kevin wakes again in the afterlife, where a mystery man tells him he can only leave by singing karaoke. He performs “Homeward Bound” and wakes up in a hotel room, still with his gunshot wound. He then finds himself back in the animal shelter, reunites with his dog, and wanders through a chaotic Miracle. After treating his wound at Erika’s clinic, a tearful John finds him and tends to him. Kevin tells John he can come over if his home is empty. As another earthquake hits, Kevin enters his house to find Jill, Laurie, Matt, Mary, Tom, Lily, and Nora welcoming him home.

In production, the episode’s title was announced in November 2015, with Lindelof and Perrotta writing and Leder directing.
