The Seven Sins' Inner Circle
One deluded mastermind, a dozen devoted geniuses, and a world that has no idea who's really in charge.
The Seven Sins' Inner Circle is the core leadership of the Shadow Court, the clandestine organization founded and commanded by Cid (known in the world as 'Shadow'). Operating from a hidden base, this tight-knit group of operatives, strategists, and specialists carries out what Cid believes to be his grand, world-spanning manipulation of events. In reality, most of their 'missions' are improvised on the fly, yet every member interprets his every offhand remark as a stroke of incomprehensible genius.
The group functions as both a narrative engine and a source of the series' signature comedy: the members' unwavering devotion to their enigmatic leader contrasts sharply with his own delusional self-image as the hidden hand pulling all the strings. Together, they clash with the world's great powers—knights, mages, and secret societies—often without either side realizing the full scope of what's happening.

Lore & Background
The Shadow Court was born from Cid's obsessive desire to be the 'Eminence in Shadow'—the unseen force behind every great event. After a traumatic past that left him convinced the world's surface is a stage and he must be the puppeteer, he gathered a circle of extraordinary individuals around himself. Delta (Ciel), a former operative of a rival power structure, became his first and most loyal subordinate, and together they built a network of agents designated by Greek-letter codenames.
What makes the Inner Circle unique is the persistent gap between Cid's self-perception and reality. He narrates his own actions as layers of scheming, three moves ahead of everyone. His subordinates, however, are genuinely brilliant in their own right, and they fill in the gaps of his improvisations with such seamless competence that the final result does look like a master plan. This creates a self-reinforcing loop: Cid becomes more convinced of his genius, his members become more devoted, and the organization grows more effective than any of them could achieve alone.
Their operations range from covert intelligence gathering to direct confrontation with the world's most dangerous entities. The Inner Circle has clashed with knightly orders, magical academies, and shadowy criminal syndicates, often in ways that leave the opposing factions utterly confused about who they are actually fighting and what the Shadow Court's true objectives even are.
Reader's Guide
Purpose: The Shadow Court exists, in Cid's mind, to orchestrate the world's events from the shadows and maintain his position as the hidden mastermind. In practice, it functions as a highly capable covert-ops group that handles threats ranging from magical incidents to geopolitical conflicts between the world's great powers.
Hierarchy: Cid (Shadow) sits at the apex as the self-appointed leader. Delta (Ciel) serves as his attendant, chief strategist, and the person who translates his vague pronouncements into actionable intelligence. Below them, members are designated by Greek-letter codenames (Gamma, Epsilon, Zeta, Theta, and others), each specializing in different operations—scouting, combat, intelligence, logistics.
Plot function: The Inner Circle drives most of the series' action. Cid throws himself into situations with no real plan; his members, interpreting his words as layered strategy, execute with such precision that the outcomes look premeditated. This engine of misunderstanding propels the narrative forward while generating the show's core humor.
The duality: Cid's self-mythology is absolute—he narrates his life as a grand chess game. His members' devotion is equally absolute, but rooted in genuine respect for his results rather than his stated reasoning. Neither side ever fully reconciles the gap, and that tension is the heart of the group's identity.
Interactions: The Shadow Court operates outside and often against the world's established powers—knightly orders, magical academies, and other secret societies. Their confrontations are frequently one-sided in information: the opposing side never learns the Court's true structure, and the Court's members occasionally don't fully understand Cid's 'plans' either.
Did You Know?
- Cid's entire 'mastermind' persona is a delusion he built after a traumatic past; his subordinates' genuine competence is what makes his improvisations look like genius.
- Delta (Ciel) was recruited from a rival power structure before becoming Cid's attendant, bringing her own formidable combat and intelligence skills to the group.
- The Shadow Court's members use Greek-letter codenames rather than their real names in operational contexts, reinforcing Cid's image as an enigmatic figure who 'doesn't need to know their faces.'
