Background
On Victory in Europe Day in 1945, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret join the crowds outside Buckingham Palace and find their way to the Ritz Hotel, where Elizabeth dances to jazz with American servicemen. In 1998 Margaret suffers a stroke in Mustique; after further strokes she returns to London, where Elizabeth cares for her. At Margaret's 70th birthday party at the Ritz, Elizabeth stops her from telling the story of their night out in 1945. An epilogue reveals that Margaret died in her sleep in 2002.
