The Obsidian Circle
A fan theory, not a canon reality.
In the intricate politics of Amber, various factions and secret alliances have been theorized by fans and scholars, but no group called 'The Obsidian Circle' exists in the canonical texts of Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber. There is no cabal by that name employing forbidden magic or ancient secrets, nor is such a group associated with Dworkin or with Amberites who have fallen out of favor with Corwin or Dworkin. No events or conspiracies labeled 'The Obsidian Circle' are recorded during the period of Corwin's return from exile.

Lore & Background
While fans have sometimes speculated about secret cabals within Amber's royal family, the canonical Chronicles of Amber contain no reference to any group called 'The Obsidian Circle.' There is no evidence of a network of Amberites using forbidden magic or ancient secrets to challenge the Pattern or the established order. No such cabal is linked to Dworkin, Corwin, or any specific period of Amber's history, including Corwin's return from exile. The idea remains entirely outside the established lore.
Reader's Guide
The Obsidian Circle lacks a formal hierarchy, operating instead as a loose confederation of ambitious and disillusioned Amberites. Leadership is fluid, often shifting to whoever holds the most compelling vision or the most dangerous leverage at any given moment. Key members are typically those who have been sidelined by the main succession or who possess unique insights into the Pattern's weaknesses. Their political goals vary but generally center on destabilizing the current order to create a new structure that favors their interests. This can range from seeking personal power to preventing what they perceive as an impending catastrophe. Internal conflicts are rampant, as trust is scarce among those who have turned against the throne. Alliances shift rapidly based on immediate needs and threats. Over time, members may defect back to the main court or be eliminated by rivals within the Circle itself, making it a volatile and unpredictable force in Amberian politics.
