Huang Jingyu and Xu Weizhou were originally cast but were replaced at the last minute by Season 1 racers Liu Chang and Jin Dachuan. SNH48 racer Huang Tingting later appeared in the first leg of the next season as a replacement.
Results
The table of team placements includes notes on penalties and rule applications. Liu Xiang originally raced with his cousin Ji Longxiang, who was replaced by Xu Qifeng after Leg 2 due to medical unfitness. Jin Xing and Heinz used an Express Pass from Liu Chang and Jin Dachuan to bypass the Roadblock on Leg 3, though Jin Xing performed the task first. On Leg 4, Liu Xiang and Xu Qifeng used their Express Pass to skip the Detour. In Leg 5, Liu Xiang and Xu Qifeng and Jin Xing and Heinz each received 30-minute penalties for quitting the sushi-eating task; the penalty did not affect Liu Xiang's placement, but Jin Xing and Heinz dropped to last, though Zhang Zhehan and Zhang Sifan used a Return Ticket to save them.
Race summary
The first leg began at the Great Wall of China's Juyong Pass, where teams ran up the wall to grab a flag from a warrior and returned it to a Ming dynasty warrior for their next clue directing them to Beijing National Stadium. In the Roadblock, one member was harnessed and hoisted into the air, performing five forward flips while rising and five backward flips while descending to receive the clue. Teams then flew to Athens, Greece, and traveled to Epidaurus in Argolis. The Detour offered a choice between Archimedes, solving a 14-piece tangram, or Spartan Warriors, throwing a javelin into a haybale and a discus beyond a line. The prize for first place was a deluxe dinner at the Hotel Grande Bretagne, a trip to Australia and New Zealand, and two Express Passes, awarded to Liu Chang and Jin Dachuan.
