Divisional Round vs Patriots 2000

Lore & Background

This game is legendary among fans for proving that the Titans could win on the road against elite competition. The Patriots were defending AFC champions with a formidable defense, yet Tennessee's offense dismantled them. It highlighted the maturity of the team following their near-miss in Super Bowl XXXIV the previous year. The matchup also marked an early chapter in Tom Brady's career as he took over the starting role for New England following Drew Bledsoe's injury earlier that season. While Brady would later become a legend, this game served as a stark reminder of the Titans' resilience and McNair's ability to command a playoff stage under pressure.

Reader's Guide

The Titans arrived in Massachusetts as underdogs but played with the confidence of champions. New England's defense looked to stifle Tennessee early, forcing early punts that shifted momentum toward Foxboro. However, Steve McNair found his rhythm quickly in the second quarter. Utilizing a mix of deep passes and quarterback runs, the Titans began to chip away at the lead. The turning point came when Tennessee capitalized on a Patriots turnover, driving downfield for a touchdown that energized the traveling fans. By the fourth quarter, the Titans' offense was unstoppable. McNair orchestrated multiple scoring drives, overwhelming the secondary with precision throws. While New England fought back, the damage was done. The final whistle confirmed a dominant road victory.
