Rilu Rilu Fairilu is a character franchise that Sanrio and Sega Sammy Holdings created together, with illustrations by character designer Ai Setani (also known as Kirimichan). It marks the second Sanrio franchise to be jointly handled by two companies, following Jewelpet. The franchise first launched in December 2015, and Studio Deen has produced three anime adaptations: *Rilu Rilu Fairilu: Yōsei no Door*, *Rilu Rilu Fairilu: Mahō no Kagami*, and *Oshiete Mahō no Pendulum: Rilu Rilu Fairilu*.
The story takes place in a magical realm called Little Fairilu, where tiny fairies known as Fairilu are born from Fairilu Seeds. Each Fairilu represents flowers, insects, or other natural elements and is born with a special Fairilu Key. These keys can open magical doors that cast spells, and if a Fairilu finds the right door, they can mature into a full-fledged fairy. The doors also connect to the human world. Fairilu attend school to study and learn about their world while making new friends.
The main character is Lip, a pink tulip Fairilu who cries easily but has a kind heart and never gives up. She was encouraged by Nozomu when she struggled to open the Door of Birth, and she always remembers him. In the third season, Lip acts like Spica's younger sister and is in love with Drop, Nozomu's Fairilu form. Her magic phrase is "Puru Puru Lip Puru." Other Flower Fairilu include Himawari, a cheerful sunflower who loves dancing; Sumire, a sensitive violet who dreams of becoming a fashion designer; Rose, a hardworking but prideful red rose who initially saw Lip as a rival; Rin, a carefree gentian born a year later than the others; Olive, a kind and smart olive; Dante, a sporty dandelion who competes with Himawari; Suzu and Ran, twin lilies of the valley who write comics and stories; Ajisai, a laid-back lavender hydrangea who loves rainy days; Sakura, a shy cherry blossom with old-fashioned speech; Higan, a quiet red spider lily who enjoys experiments; and Kasumi, a quiet baby's breath.
The third season introduces a human girl named Arisu Hanazono, who finds a magical pendulum and book, summoning Fairilu. Initially full of worries, she meets friendly Fairilu and travels to Little Fairilu, where she learns to solve her problems and change herself.
