Mutya

Mutya is a Philippine television fantasy drama series that aired on ABS-CBN in 2011. It is based on a comic of the same name by Pablo S. Gomez. The series was directed by Erick C. Salud and Jojo A. Saguin, with Mutya Orquia playing the lead role. It was broadcast as part of the network's Primetime Bida lineup and on TFC worldwide from January 31 to May 6, 2011, replacing Noah and later succeeded by 100 Days to Heaven. The series is available for streaming on YouTube.

The show was developed by Dreamscape Entertainment, which had produced similar family, religious, and child-oriented dramas since 2005, including Mga Anghel na Walang Langit, Princess Sarah, and May Bukas Pa. It was followed later in 2011 by 100 Days to Heaven.

The story follows Mutya (Mutya Orquia), a child mermaid who is the daughter of Cordelia (Precious Lara Quigaman), a human, and Prinsipe Irvin (Alfred Vargas), the prince of the underwater kingdom. Their relationship was forbidden because Irvin was betrothed to another mermaid, Nerissa (Niña Jose). Cordelia became pregnant and gave birth to a child whose legs were fused together. Cordelia's mother, Delilah (Sandy Andolong), was horrified and ordered Tonyo (Jayson Gainza) to abandon the baby. Instead, Tonyo took the child home, raised her as his own, and named her Mutya. As she grows up, Mutya is protected by her older brother Aries (Jairus Aquino). She does not yet realize she is a mermaid; her fused legs are mistaken for a disability, though they are actually her mermaid tail forming.

The cast includes Pen Medina as Haring Merrick, Izzy Canillo as Young Aries, Carlo Lacana as Young Dennis, April Sun as Sirena, Justin Gonzales as Sireno, Veyda Inoval as Jasmin (a school bully whose mother thinks she is lying about Mutya being a mermaid), Jovic Susim as Igat, Joe Vargas as Lumot, Jubail Andres as Eskale, and Allan de Paz as Tatang. The series ran for 68 episodes.
