Lore & Background

The series is set in a dystopian Metro City in the year 2120 and follows a heroine named Justina, voiced by Veronica Hart, who fights crime as part of a vigilante force. The plots inevitably lead Justina and others into sexual situations. The show was directed by Michael Ninn, with Robert C. England serving as technical director, lead animator, motion-capture actor, and the voice of Wendell. It was produced by Ninn and Hart, among others, through Hope Ranch Productions, and featured a number of porn stars as voice actors and models for motion capture, animated with 3D Studio Max and Character Studio.

Reader's Guide

Playboy's Dark Justice is significant as an early experiment in combining computer animation with hardcore pornography, and for its attempt to incorporate serialized plot and character arcs into a genre typically dominated by non-narrative content. It was the only completed film and television production from Hope Ranch Productions until the company was acquired by Pure Play Media in 2002 and renamed Ninn Worx.

The name 'Hope Ranch' appears to have been later used for the alternate reality game Kronos480BC promoting the Ninn Worx production 'The Four'. Despite its innovative approach, the series ran only 20 of its intended 26 episodes, ending in 2001. Its legacy lies in its pioneering use of motion capture and 3D animation for adult content, though it remains a niche and largely forgotten entry in television history.
