Production
Aaron Korsh conceived the idea for a show about Hollywood dealmakers centered on a former prosecutor-turned-agent while working on the original Suits, loosely inspired by a real-life agent who had prosecuted mobsters. He shelved the idea initially but revisited it after Suits wrapped and during the pandemic, when the project was called Ted. Korsh pitched the show to NBCUniversal twice and to Netflix; feedback led him to reimagine the characters as lawyers and add a criminal law component. On October 12, 2023, an untitled Suits spin-off was announced. On February 1, 2024, NBC ordered a pilot written by Korsh and directed by Victoria Mahoney. The spin-off was reported to be set in Los Angeles on December 28, 2023. On July 19, 2024, Suits LA was picked up to series. Korsh executive produces with David Bartis, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, and Mahoney. Production companies include Hypnotic and Universal Content Productions. On August 7, 2024, it was reported that Ted Black was inspired by CAA agent Ted Chervin. NBC canceled the series on May 9, 2025.
