Australia's Most Wanted

Crime re-enactments that sparked national debate.

Australia's Most Wanted, a television program that adopted the format popularised by America's Most Wanted, aired on the Seven Network as a regular series between 1989 and 1998. The programme frequently made headlines because of its graphic re-enactments of crime scenes, which many viewers considered too upsetting for its 7:30 pm Monday time slot.

After the Seven Network ended the series in early 1999, the Nine Network launched its own version later that year. This iteration failed to attract strong ratings and was cancelled after nine episodes. Each episode ran for 24 minutes, featured six commercial breaks, and covered two cases; it aired from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Monday nights between 6 September and 1 November 1999. One episode, titled "Funeral for a Princess", focused on the murder of Belinda Williams at her Elizabeth Street home in Buninyong, Victoria. As of 2026, this case remains unsolved.

Presenters across the show’s various incarnations included Don Willesee (1988 pilot), Bryan Marshall (1989), Ann Sanders (1993), Sarah Henderson (1994), Roger Climpson (1997–1998), and Alastair Duncan (voiceover for the Seven Network). For the Nine Network’s 1999 version, Hugh Riminton and Kim Watkins hosted. In 1993, Senior Constable Denise Behringer served as the regular New South Wales Police representative. Jackie Forsyth, widow of murdered police constable Peter Forsyth, worked as a special reporter on the Nine Network version.

In 2013, Network Ten revived the series under the name Wanted, with hosts Sandra Sully and Matt Doran. The show was unsuccessful and was cancelled after two months.
