Background

Farazmand started drawing comics in high school and launched Poorly Drawn Lines as a freshman at the University of California, San Diego. The strip debuted in the campus newspaper, The Guardian. Since 2013, he has worked on the comic full-time, releasing new strips three times a week. In 2014, some of the strips were turned into five episodes of the Comedy Central show TripTank. The comic has been distributed by GoComics since 2013. Farazmand’s first collection, Poorly Drawn Lines: Good Ideas and Amazing Stories, came out on October 6, 2015, through Penguin’s Plume imprint and hit number five on the New York Times bestseller list later that month. In 2021, an animated version of the comic was announced for the fifth season of FXX’s Cake, airing on September 30, 2021. The strip is mostly standalone, with a satirical or absurdist tone, covering topics like space travel, supernatural events, science fiction, friendship, and existentialism.
