What the cited sources add

The source "A-Z of Classic Children's Television" by Sheridan, published by Reynolds & Hearn in 2004, states the series is based on Beresford's books.[1][3] That same source notes the Wombles collect and recycle human rubbish.[1][3] The Daily Telegraph obituary for Elisabeth Beresford reports the BBC commissioned FilmFair after the Jackanory feature.[2] The stop-motion animation technique used in the series is verified by the cited materials.[1][3]
