Ghosts (Australian TV series)
Australian adaptation of the British sitcom Ghosts.
Ghosts is an Australian sitcom that aired on Network 10 and Paramount+ from 2 November 2023, adapted from the British series of the same name. The story centres on city couple Kate and Sean, who inherit the crumbling Ramshead Manor and plan to turn it into a hotel. After a near-death experience, Kate can see and hear the estate’s resident ghosts—a skill Sean lacks.
The series was announced in October 2022 at Network 10’s upfronts, with BBC Studios Australia producing. Eight episodes were filmed in Perth, Western Australia. The ghostly ensemble includes Eileen, an Irish publican from the Great Famine; Gideon, a Third Fleet naval officer; Miranda, a socialite who died in the Great Influenza epidemic; Lindy, an aerobics instructor from the 1980s; Joon, a Chinese-born miner from the gold rush era; and “Satan,” a 1990s bikie with a gentle nature. Tamala Shelton plays Kate, and Rowan Witt plays Sean.
The series premiered on both Network 10 and Paramount+ on 2 November 2023. In 2024, the BBC acquired UK distribution rights, and the show debuted on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer on 25 July 2024. Critical reception was mostly positive: Anthony Morris of ScreenHub gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars, calling it a “lightweight, well-crafted dramedy,” while Chelsea Hui of Mamamia described it as “quintessentially Australian” and praised the cast’s chemistry.
