Jun Kazama

via Wikipedia: Jin Kazama · see source

Jun Kazama is a character from Bandai Namco's Tekken series, first appearing in the 1997 game Tekken 3. She is the mother of Jin Kazama, the series' protagonist. Her apparent death at the hands of Ogre serves as the primary motivation for Jin's quest for vengeance in Tekken 3. However, a common interpretation among gamers that Jun was killed before the events of Tekken 3 is actually incorrect. According to series director Katsuhiro Harada, Jun is missing, not dead. This misunderstanding is explored in a story from Jin's point of view. Harada has stated that, as far as the rivalry between Jin and his father Kazuya Mishima is concerned, Jun would be present at their eventual confrontation.

Lore & Background

Jun Kazama is the mother of Jin Kazama, the central character of the Tekken series from Tekken 3 onwards. Her apparent death at the hands of Ogre is the catalyst for Jin's story, as he trains with his grandfather Heihachi Mishima to avenge her. However, Heihachi betrays Jin to awaken the Devil Gene within him. A common interpretation of Jun's fate is that she was killed before the events of Tekken 3. This belief is explored in a story from Jin's point of view and was shared by most gamers. However, Jin and the gamers were actually incorrect—Jun is missing. Series director Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed this, explaining that as far as the rivalry between Jin and Kazuya is concerned, Jun would be present at their eventual confrontation. Harada also noted that the wings possessed by Jin's alter ego, Devil Jin, are actually related to his mother's heritage rather than the Mishima's.

Her apparent death at the hands of Ogre in the backstory of Tekken 3 is the primary motivation for Jin's actions throughout the series. This belief, shared by Jin and most gamers, is a key plot point. However, series director Katsuhiro Harada has stated that this interpretation is incorrect—Jun is actually missing, not dead.
