Orci left the project to work on Star Trek Beyond, and in April 2015 Dean Israelite was in negotiations to direct.[1] Becky G was chosen to play Trini at the month's end, and Elizabeth Banks was announced as Rita Repulsa on February 2, 2016.[2] Filming began on February 29, 2016 in Vancouver and was complete on May 28, 2016.[3] The studio hired Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz to write the screenplay; after their version was rejected, Max Landis submitted a script that was also declined.[1]

Testing for the five Power Rangers roles started in October 2015.[2]

What the cited sources add

TheWrap reported that the film grossed only $142 million on a budget of around $100 million, scrapping hopes for a bigger franchise.[4] Hasbro then acquired Power Rangers in 2018 in a deal designed to capitalize on the franchise's full potential across all of the company's divisions.[4] Screen Rant noted that Elizabeth Banks described her Rita Repulsa as "a modern and edgy re-imagining" with a backstory connecting her to the new Rangers.[5] Two tracks on the soundtrack are the "Power Rangers Theme" performed by Dimash Qudaibergen and "Give It All" by With You featuring Santigold and Vince Staples.[6]

According to Film Music Reporter, Varese Sarabande issued the soundtrack as a digital download on March 24, 2017.[7]
