Ken Hodge Jr. got his start playing forward for St. John's Prep as a 16-year-old, racking up 47 goals and 71 assists for 118 points over 44 games across two seasons. After high school, he entered the 1984 NHL draft and was picked by the Minnesota North Stars in the third round, 46th overall. He then spent three years at Boston College, where he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 1984-85, scoring 20 goals and 64 points in 44 games. A sophomore season limited to 21 games was followed by a strong junior year in 1986-87, when he put up 62 points in 37 games and helped Boston College win both the Hockey East regular season and tournament championships.

Hodge's finest NHL campaign came with Boston in 1990-91, when he scored 30 goals and 29 assists, earning a spot on the NHL All-Rookie Team. On September 4, 1992, the Bruins sent him and Matt Hervey to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Darin Kimble and future considerations. His final NHL action came with Tampa Bay in 1992-93, where he managed two goals and seven assists in 25 games. He continued in the minors for several more seasons, then played two years in Europe, posting respectable numbers before retiring after the 1997-98 season.
