Making and release

In December 2015, Gautham Vasudev Menon agreed to produce a horror film directed by Selvaraghavan.[1][2] Composer Santhosh Narayanan was initially signed for the project.[1] Santhosh Narayanan was replaced by Yuvan Shankar Raja in April 2016.[1][3] Principal photography wrapped on 30 June 2016.[4]

The film was initially scheduled for release on 23 June 2017 but was delayed indefinitely.[5] It finally released in theatres on 5 March 2021 after a Madras High Court injunction was resolved.[6] Selvaraghavan mentioned that S. J. Suryah was chosen for the role to make up for a previous project from which he had removed the actor.[7] In January 2016, a muhurta ceremony for the film took place at Menon's office located in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai.[4]

24 November 2016 was the date when the soundtrack album came out.[8] Starting 14 May 2021, the film was available for streaming on ZEE5.[6]

What the cited sources add

A source close to Selvaraghavan told IANS the film would be made to send chills down the audience's spine.[2][9] Selvaraghavan told Ritz magazine he wanted to invent a new genre rather than fix the film to a particular one.[10] Yuvan Shankar Raja confirmed the film's upcoming release by sharing a new poster in December 2019.[11] Pudipeddi also noted the film stands out because of eccentric writing only Selvaraghavan could do justice to.[12]

He stated that the project was initiated with the goal of creating a quick independent film.[10] A review by Pudipeddi for Hindustan Times noted that the film lacks typical horror movie clichés such as creaking doors.[12][13]
