Gameplay
Outside of battle, Keroro RPG resembles other Tales series titles. Players visit towns to talk to NPCs, buy items, and advance the story, and explore dungeons containing enemies, treasures, and puzzles. After battles, gold is earned for purchases and experience points for leveling up. Travel between locations uses a field map that sometimes has no enemies. Combat employs the Linear Motion Battle System (LMBS) with 2D sprites on a single two-dimensional line in real time. The player controls one character while others are AI-controlled, and only three party members appear on the battlefield. Players can call in characters from previous Namco-Bandai games, such as Pac-Man, The Prince, Taizo Hori, Don Wada, and Klonoa, for attacks.
Reception
Famitsu staff described the game as essentially Tales of Keroro, noting that the charm of the anime series was combined with the Tales system to create an orthodox but well-made game. They found battles somewhat tough but the combos enjoyable enough to encourage repeated attempts, and appreciated the ability to change difficulty at any time. Criticisms included annoying menu controls, an unfinished feel to the field map, and a story that was obviously a series of fetch quests.
