Gameplay
Players take the role of an airport manager, first selecting a location from several cities worldwide. They construct a terminal, runways, tarmac, control towers, and support services. Business is attracted by signing contracts with vendors and contracting flights. The player manages the airport's budget to avoid excessive loss, and can operate passenger or cargo airports. Preset scenarios include converting a major cargo airport to a passenger airport in Beijing.
Sequels
Airport Tycoon 2 hit Windows PCs on February 26, 2003, courtesy of Sunstorm Interactive and Global Star Software. Critics panned it; GameRankings gave it a 31% average from nine reviews, while Metacritic scored it 32 out of 100 from six. The follow-up, Airport Tycoon 3, arrived on October 30, 2003, developed by InterActive Vision and published by Global Star. Metacritic assigned it a 46 out of 100 based on four reviews, again marking it as generally unfavorable.
