Street Fighter X Tekken

A crossover tag-team fighter uniting Street Fighter and Tekken rosters.

Last updated

Street Fighter X Tekken is a crossover fighting game developed by Capcom that combines characters from the Street Fighter and Tekken series.[1] Players select two fighters and use a six-button control system, with Tekken characters able to perform their series' combos using four primary buttons.[1] The game emphasizes tag-team mechanics, allowing players to switch partners during combos through Switch Cancel and Cross Rush moves.[2]

Making and release

Ono and Harada confirmed Street Fighter X Tekken and showed a teaser trailer featuring Ryu versus Kazuya Mishima.[3][4] Harada also announced a separate project, Tekken X Street Fighter, being developed by Namco in a 3D style, but that game was put on hold in 2016 and never released.[5][4] The PC port was developed by Polish studio QLOC.[6] A PlayStation Vita version was announced at E3 2011, with cross-compatible downloadable content between the PS3 and Vita versions.[6]

The PlayStation 3 and Vita versions feature five exclusive characters, including Cole MacGrath, Toro Inoue, Kuro, Pac-Man, and Mega Man.[7] Capcom allowed players to try the game at Fight Night events before release, raising over £5,000 for UK charity GamesAid at one such event.[8] Capcom announced a reality show called Cross Assault, broadcast live via Twitch, where ten players competed in challenges based on the game.[9] The initial character selection comprises 38 fighters, with 19 originating from the Street Fighter series and 19 from the Tekken series.[10]

On July 31, 2012, 12 additional combatants (six per franchise) became available as downloadable content for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and on February 6, 2013, they were released for PC.[10]

What the cited sources add

The Kotaku report by McWhertor states that Street Fighter X Tekken was introduced with a pre-rendered teaser in Street Fighter IV's sketchy visual style and was coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.[4] That same source notes that the match demo featured Ryu versus Kazuya Mishima, and then Ono and Harada tagged in Chun-li and Nina Williams.[4] Capcom's announcement for Cross Assault states that the show involved ten participants, selected via video submissions, who competed for either Team Street Fighter or Team Tekken.[9] According to Peterson's post, the Street Fighter Total Game Integration returned to PlayStation Home as its own dedicated game space on July 25, 2012.[11]
