Blaze Union

Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future is a tactical role-playing game for the PlayStation Portable. It was developed by Sting Entertainment, published internationally by Sting Entertainment and in Japan by Atlus, and its scenario was written by Sting Entertainment staff. The game is only available in Japanese. It is a prequel to Yggdra Union and uses the same gameplay systems, with a few small adjustments. The most significant change is a mission selection system that appears at two points in the game, creating separate story branches similar to those in a visual novel. A remastered version was released for the Nintendo Switch on March 30, 2023 in Japan. Mobile versions for iOS and Android were also announced.

The story takes place three years before Yggdra Union, in the year 1487 M.D. This era was a golden age for most of the continent, but a dark age for the empire of Bronquia. The current Emperor, Thortie, was an incompetent ruler who heavily taxed the people to fund his army. Most of the nobility was corrupt, and bandits preyed on the weak. In the trade city of Tiera, a youth named Garlot grew up under oppression from the rich, the nobility, and his own father's abuse. He and his friends Siskier and Jenon formed a band of noble thieves to protect the poor. The game begins as Garlot’s band defeats a noble named Norn and his mercenaries, with help from a traveler named Medoute. This catches the attention of Landgrave Velleman, who asks them to help stabilize Bronquia. They join forces, and Velleman renames their group Gram Blaze. The story follows Gram Blaze as they restore public order, gather allies, and gain notoriety. While it is a medieval fantasy adventure, it is also a slice-of-life story about the bonds between members and a portrait of Garlot and his world. Depending on player choices, the plot can go in three directions, with four possible conclusions. Major themes include comradeship, racism, revenge, and mental-emotional stress and trauma.

The protagonist is Garlot, a seventeen-year-old from the slums of Tiera who leads Gram Blaze. He wants to become stronger due to the injustices caused by the Emperor’s poor rule. He was abused by his father and abandoned by his mother, and still suffers from the emotional aftereffects.
