Sham rage is a term used to describe behaviors such as biting, clawing, hissing, arching the back, and violent alternating limb movements observed in animal experiments after removal of the cerebral cortex. These behaviors are claimed to occur in the absence of any inner experience of rage, though this concept has been disputed by many affective neuroscientists.
