Origins & Formation

Anthology emerged from Slovakia in 2008, born from the partnership of guitarist Marián Gonda and bassist Ján Kičín. By the time their debut EP arrived in 2011, the lineup had solidified into a cohesive unit featuring Alexandra Hírešová on vocals, Majo "Mathias" Gonda and Miro "Morety" Grman on guitars, Martin "Maarty" Solárik on keyboards, and Peter "Pepo" Pleva on drums. The result was a young Slovak act with the compositional maturity to compete on larger stages, a fact they would soon prove to festival audiences across the region.

The lineup at that time featured Raylyn Shayde on lead vocals, with Mathias Gonda and Morety Grman sharing guitar duties, Marek "Marc" Štech on bass and screamo vocals, Maarty Solárik on keyboards, and Pepo Pleva on drums. Following the album's release, Anthology began attracting attention and publicity in Japan, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Canada, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, and across Latin America. Musical Evolution & Experimentation

From their earliest recordings, Anthology demonstrated a commitment to melodic precision. The 2011 EP Exitus already showcased their signature blend of vocal and guitar melodies underpinned by tight rhythmic accuracy, a sound mixed by Vladimír Povala. By the time of The Prophecy in 2014, the band had pushed their arrangements further, and the 2016 album Angel's Revenge pushed them even further into experimental territory. That record layered additional symphonic textures over the band's established power-metal foundation while simultaneously introducing more aggressive passages. A notable highlight was the inclusion of guest vocals from English death metal vocalist Connor Sanders, whose contributions added a raw, brutal counterpoint to the album's otherwise orchestral palette. Personnel Turbulence & Enduring Core

Anthology's journey has been shaped as much by its shifting lineup as by its music. The vocalist position proved particularly unstable in the band's early years. Alexandra Hírešová, who sang on the 2011 EP, departed twice—first in 2012 and again in 2013—leaving the group in a difficult transitional period between 2012 and 2013. Raylyn Shayde (born Ľubica Gavlasová) stepped in during 2013 and remained the band's voice until 2021, a span that covered both The Prophecy and Angel's Revenge. The bass chair saw even more turnover: founding member Ján Kičín left in 2013, followed by Marek Štech, Kristián Žilinec, and finally Martin Lofaj, who has held the position since 2016. Despite this churn, the band's backbone has remained remarkably stable. Marián Gonda has played guitar and composed since 2008, Miro Grman has been on guitar since 2009, and Peter Pleva has manned the drum kit since the very beginning. Lilian Anerousi joined on vocals in 2021, bringing a new voice to a project whose core creative engine has never changed.
