History
Gravitonas first appeared with the single Kites in April 2010, a track that held a spot in the Swedish Dance Chart's top ten for four months straight. That release came with remixes from prominent Scandinavian electronic artists, including Dada Life and SoundFactory. The Hypnosis EP followed on 18 August 2010, put out digitally and internationally by Universal Music, with the song Religious as its main draw. Religious made its way onto the Russian Hot 100 chart in November 2010, where it stayed for more than four months and got over 100,000 spins on Russian national radio. It later crossed over to the United States, reaching number 28 on the Billboard Magazine Club Play Chart in April 2011. A third offering, The Coliseum EP, dropped digitally on 3 November 2010, featuring the lead track You Break Me Up along with a video. After the band got going, lead vocalist Andreas Öhrn and guitarist Ben Smith built successful careers writing and producing for other acts, scoring number one hits in Japan with boy bands Hey! Say! JUMP and Kis-My-Ft2. The pair also handled the soundtrack for the Swedish film I Miss You, directed by Anders Grönros, which came out in September 2011 and hit number two at the Swedish box office. On 25 May 2011, Gravitonas teamed up with Russian pop singer Roma Kenga for Everybody Dance, a Swedish-Russian project backed by Universal Music Russia, Sofo Records, and Perpetuum Music. That single entered the Russian Airplay Top 30 in July 2011 and got added to the A-list of Europa Plus, the biggest radio network in Eastern Europe. It later charted in six more European countries and entered the Billboard Club Chart Top 50 in the U.S. on 21 November 2011, eventually climbing to number 19 and giving the band its first American top 20 hit. The Lucky Star single and video arrived globally as a digital EP on 15 September 2011, after being performed live at the Crimea Music Festival in Yalta on 8 September. That track became a top 20 hit in five European countries and went all the way to number one in Belarus. Call Your Name, another single and video, came out on 14 March 2012, followed by the six-track EP Black Ceremony on 21 March.
