Story

The conflict between the United States and Germany is at the heart of the story, with tensions rising after several destroyer skirmishes in the Caribbean. The sinking of the merchant ship SS Samuel Wren near Ireland in mid-1937 pushes both nations to the edge of war. A German U-boat claimed to have surfaced to inspect the vessel for illegal arms before sinking it without warning. Soon after, a British task force led by Prince Edward is attacked south of England while heading to the Falkland Islands to fight LFN warships.

Prince Edward is lost, but HMS Hood escapes with only moderate damage. A German force, with the Kaiser Wilhelm as its flagship, chases the retreating British but is intercepted by a large American destroyer group, buying time for Hood to get away. Later intelligence shows that the Americans also engaged Hood’s task force, and it did not get away without harm. The first chapter closes with a cutscene revealing a massive American assault on the German fleet at Scapa Flow, crippling the battleships there.

Richthofen then declares the battleship era finished and orders that two German battleships still being fitted out at Kiel be converted to carry aircraft. The epilogue shows photos of Bismarck under construction, nearly complete, and after its conversion into a battlecarrier. The final image displays a large flight deck on the aft section, while the two forward gun turrets remain in place.
