Gaming career
NuckleDu qualified for the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Grand Finals through the New York City qualifier in 2012, placing 13th while sponsored by Empire Arcadia. He was invited to the 2013 Capcom Cup for Street Fighter X Tekken, finishing fifth after losses to Justin Wong and Dexter "Tampa Bison" James. In August 2014, he left Empire Arcadia and later signed with Team Curse. He qualified for the 2014 Capcom Cup via points leaderboards, ranked 6th among non-qualified players, and placed 9th after upsetting Darryl "Snake Eyez" Lewis. He won Apex 2015 and Combo Breaker, defeating Snake Eyez and Ricki Ortiz in grand finals. At EVO 2015, he placed 7th in Ultra Street Fighter IV, losing to Bruce "GamerBee" Hsiang. He won the EGL Dallas tournament but was not paid the promised $5,000; EGL later declared bankruptcy. He placed 13th in the 2015 Capcom Cup, the second highest American. In Street Fighter V, he took 2nd at DreamHack Austin over Justin Wong. He won Capcom Cup 2016, earning $230,000. He left Team Liquid in December 2017. Playstyle
In Ultra Street Fighter IV, NuckleDu is considered a master of charge characters, with an unorthodox offensive Guile playstyle that attracts viewers. As Decapre, he employs a tricky and unpredictable style. He is known for excessive taunting during matches, such as using Guile's shades, which some players find offensive and has led to him being labeled a villain. In Street Fighter V, his Nash is described as offensive, starting with fast-paced movement and turning into a slugfest.
Personal life
Born May 12, 1996 in Tampa, Florida, NuckleDu is of Vietnamese descent. His dog Tofu helps him manage depression. A fear of flying keeps him mostly in the U.S., though he hopes to visit Australia and Vietnam. In 2017, he gave his DreamHack Montreal winnings to Hurricane Irma relief, which impacted his home state.
