The Brain Bug is the largest and most strategically critical of the Arachnid (colloquially, 'Bug') species that wage war against human civilization. Serving as the command and coordination node of the Bug collective, a single Brain Bug orchestrates the movements, attacks, and labor of every other Arachnid form in its domain—runners, soldiers, workers, and the smaller support castes. Without its direction, the otherwise formidable Bug army fragments into a disorganized mass of chitin and clicking mandibles.

Because of this centralizing role, the Brain Bug is the primary and most sought-after target of the Mobile Infantry. The hum grew louder, and the clicking of the soldiers ahead of them faltered, desynchronized, as if the conductor had just dropped his baton.
