History
In late 2015, Starship Entertainment and Yuehua Entertainment introduced a 12-member girl group named WJSN, splitting its Korean and Chinese members into four subunits. The first, Wonder Unit, was announced on December 10 and featured Cheng Xiao, Bona, and Dayoung. Joy Unit followed on December 17 with Xuanyi, Eunseo, and Yeoreum. On December 21, the Wonder and Joy Units released a Christmas cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You."
Sweet Unit, consisting of Seola, Exy, and Soobin, was announced on December 24, and the final subunit, Natural Unit, with Meiqi, Luda, and Dawon, was announced on December 31. WJSN officially debuted on February 25, 2016, with the mini album Would You Like?, which included the title tracks "Mo Mo Mo" and "Catch Me." Their debut stage took place that same day on M Countdown. On July 11, Starship Entertainment confirmed that I.O.I's Yoo Yeon-jung would join the group.
In August 2016, seven members—Seola, Exy, Soobin, Eunseo, Cheng Xiao, Yeoreum, and Dayoung—formed the project unit Y-Teen with label mates Monsta X, serving as CF models for KT's phone fare service and releasing EPs, music videos, and other content. On August 17, WJSN released their second mini album The Secret, now with all 13 members. Their third mini album, From. WJSN, arrived on January 4, featuring the title track "I Wish."
From May 19 to 20, the group held their first solo concert, "Would You Like - Happy Moment," at the Blue Square Samsung Card Hall, drawing 2,000 fans over two days. On June 7, WJSN released their first full-length album, Happy Moment, a ten-track set led by the single "Happy." The album topped Hanteo's daily and real-time charts after its release.
