Apophis
The Goa'uld System Lord who was SG-1's main enemy in the early seasons.
Apophis is a Goa'uld System Lord in Stargate SG-1, played by Peter Williams, and the show's chief villain for most of its first four seasons. Modelled on the Egyptian god Apep, he gained power after Ra's death in the film, and his raid on Earth and Abydos in the pilot, Children of the Gods, restarts the Stargate Program; his First Prime, Teal'c, defects soon after.

Background
His standing among the System Lords collapses after his all-out attack on Earth fails in the season 2 episode The Serpent's Lair. Killed in season 3, he is revived by Sokar, then beats Sokar's fleet in The Devil You Know and becomes the strongest Goa'uld in the galaxy. He dies aboard his own Replicator-infested ship in the season 5 episode Enemies, but returns in visions and alternate timelines: The Changeling, Moebius and Stargate: Continuum, where Ba'al kills him. In the show's backstory he once lived on Earth posing as a god, which is where the Egyptian myth comes from.
Jack O'Neill
Jack O'Neill is a USAF colonel who later becomes brigadier general, major general, and then lieutenant general. He led the original mission through the Stargate in the film Stargate. In the film, he is portrayed by Kurt Russell, while Richard Dean Anderson plays him as a regular in seasons 1–8 and in a recurring role in seasons 9–10. Michael Welch portrays a young Colonel O'Neill in the episode "Fragile Balance." O'Neill also appears in Stargate: Continuum and in seasons 1 and 3 of Stargate Atlantis. He leads the SG-1 team for the first seven seasons and takes command of Stargate Command after his promotion to brigadier general at the start of season 8. He is promoted to major general at the beginning of season 9 and reassigned to Washington, D.C., later making sporadic appearances in the final episodes of season one of Stargate Universe.
Daniel Jackson
Dr. Daniel Jackson is a brilliant archaeologist and linguist specializing in Egyptology. His unusual theories about the origin of the Egyptian Pyramids led to his participation in the original Stargate mission. He is played by James Spader in the film and by Michael Shanks as a regular in seasons 1–5 and 7–10, with a recurring role in season 6. He also appears in both direct-to-DVD films and in seasons 1 and 5 of Stargate Atlantis. Daniel joins SG-1 to search for his kidnapped wife, Sha're, until her death in season 3, but he remains with the team until his ascension at the end of season 5. He later retakes human form and rejoins SG-1 at the beginning of season 7. As stated in season 2's "1969," he speaks 23 languages, including Russian, German, Spanish, and Egyptian, and becomes Earth's foremost expert on the Ancients, learning Goa'uld, Ancient, and Unas.
