Star Wolf
They don't save the galaxy. They just need the camera to be on them.
Star Wolf is the small, fiercely competitive rival squadron that haunts the tail of Star Fox throughout the series. Led by the brash blue falcon Falco Lombardi, the team operates as a self-styled elite crew of anthropomorphic animal pilots who measure their worth by outshining Fox McCloud and his crew. Where Star Fox fights for the galaxy, Star Wolf fights for the highlight reel.

Lore & Background
Star Wolf occupies a unique niche in the Star Fox mythos. They are not Andross's brainwashed army, nor are they government assets. They are freelance pilots who answer to no one but their own pride. Falco, the self-proclaimed top gun, built the crew around a simple philosophy: if you're going to fly, you fly so hard that everyone else looks like they're standing still. Pico, the boisterous pig, brings raw aggression and a love of close-quarters brawling to a team that otherwise favors speed and precision.
Reader's Guide
DOSSIER: STAR WOLF
Composition: A compact rival squadron. The confirmed core is Falco Lombardi (leader, blue falcon) and Pico (pig, aggressive close-range pilot). The team is small enough that every member is a named, personality-driven character rather than a faceless grunt.
Objective: Star Wolf does not serve Andross or the Cornerian government. Their driving motivation is personal: to be recognized as the best pilots in the galaxy, which in their minds means beating Fox McCloud in front of an audience. They will cooperate with Star Fox against a mutual threat, but the moment the dust settles, the rivalry reignites.
Signature craft & tactics: Falco flies the Blue Falcon, a fast, hard-hitting fighter that trades some of the Arwing's agility for sheer punch. Pico pilots the Pico Flyer, a wider, more brutish craft suited to ramming and sustained fire. Tactically, Star Wolf favors aggressive intercepts, tight formation breaks, and showboating—flying in patterns that are as much about looking good as about dealing damage.
Relationship to Star Fox: Rivals first, enemies second, reluctant allies third. The Fox-vs-Falco rivalry is the franchise's most debated personal conflict: two top-tier pilots who respect each other's skill but refuse to concede the title of best. Pico adds a different flavor—less ego, more raw competitiveness, the pilot who will body-check your wingman just to prove a point. Fans endlessly debate whether Falco or Fox is the superior pilot, and Star Wolf's entire existence is the universe's way of saying the argument is the point.
In gameplay, Star Wolf members appear as mid-bosses or rival encounters, often giving the player a taste of their aggressive AI before the real villainy (Andross) takes the stage. They are the fun, personal layer of conflict in a story that is otherwise about saving a galaxy.
Did You Know?
- Falco's Blue Falcon and Pico's Pico Flyer are visually distinct from Star Fox's Arwing, with bulkier, more aggressive silhouettes that emphasize raw power over sleekness.
- Star Wolf members are not Andross's brainwashed soldiers; they are independent pilots with their own agenda, which sets them apart from the rest of the enemy forces in the series.
- In Star Fox 64, Star Wolf encounters are structured as rival mid-boss fights rather than faceless enemy waves, giving the team a distinct narrative role separate from Andross's army.
