Blues captain who lifted the Stanley Cup in 2019 after twelve seasons in St. Louis.
Alexander Pietrangelo, a Canadian defenceman born January 18, 1990, currently serves as alternate captain for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL. Known as "Petro," he spent twelve seasons with the St. Louis Blues, captaining the team for his final four years there. A two-time Stanley Cup champion, he won his first title with the Blues in 2019 and his second with the Golden Knights in 2023. On the international stage, Pietrangelo earned a gold medal with Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics.
His junior career began in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Niagara IceDogs and later the Barrie Colts. He represented Canada at the junior level, winning gold at the 2009 World Junior Championships and earning Best Defenceman honors at both the 2010 World Junior Championship and the 2011 Men's World Championship. Drafted fourth overall by the Blues in 2008, Pietrangelo made his NHL debut that October but was sent back to junior after eight games. He was named to the NHL Second All-Star Team in 2011–12 and again in 2013–14, and signed a seven-year, $45 million contract with St. Louis in 2013. As captain, he set career highs in points and goals during the 2018–19 season, culminating in the Blues' first Stanley Cup victory.
