Football
The football team won the Segunda Divisão seven times. Its highest Primeira Divisão finish was fourth in 1969–70, a squad that included Manuel Bento. The following season Barreirense entered the 1970–71 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, beating Dinamo Zagreb 2–0 at home but losing 6–1 away. The club’s major rival is Fabril, formerly Quimigal. Barreirense developed players such as Arsénio Duarte, José Augusto, Carlos Manuel, and João Cancelo, who later played for Benfica and the Portugal national team.
Basketball
Basketball has been played at Barreirense since 1927. The club won two national championships (1956–57 and 1957–58) and six Portuguese Cups. It participated in the European Clubs Championship twice; its first match in that competition, against Real Madrid, was the first basketball game broadcast live on Portuguese television. Barreirense never won a European match. The club has won numerous youth titles, including ten Under-20 championships, six Under-18 championships, and ten Under-16 championships. It is the first Portuguese club to have a former youth player, Neemias Queta, reach the NBA. In the overall ranking of Portuguese championships, Barreirense sits third with 37 titles, behind Benfica and Porto.
