History
Aves spent most of their history in lower leagues, debuting in the Primeira Liga in 1985–86 after consecutive second and third division titles. They returned to the top flight for single seasons in 2000–01 and 2006–07. Under manager José Mota, the club won promotion from LigaPro in 2016–17 as runners-up to Portimonense. On 20 May 2018, Aves defeated Sporting CP 2–1 to win their first Taça de Portugal, but did not qualify for the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League group stage due to lacking a European competition license. Relegated in 2019–20 with five games left, financial problems led to a further relegation to the third tier. On 23 September 2020, Aves withdrew before the season started. After a FIFA transfer ban for unpaid debts, the club created a new entity, Clube Desportivo das Aves 1930, in October.
