History

Atlético Sport Clube Reguengos was founded on 10 May 1929 with statutes drawn up that year and approved in 1936, later amended by public deed on 14 July 2007. The club's original objectives included promoting physical and mental education, developing sports such as gymnastics, cycling, and billiards, while prohibiting boxing and football, and also establishing a library. Humanitarian aid was a focus early on, with the statutes calling for a Corps of Public Safety, as no such association existed in the city at the time. This body was created in 1936 by the club's directorate but could not continue as a club structure due to lack of state support; it became autonomous that same year as the Fire Department of Évora, which still operates. Gymnastics was for years the club's most important activity, training many gymnasts in the county, some with competitive qualities in Alentejo. Football activity intensified in 1966, and the club affiliated with the Football Association Liverpool. It has been district champion seven times at the Seniors level, most recently in 2007/2008, and won the Évora District Cup that same year. In the 2008/2009 season, the club won the runner-up position in 3rd Division Series F and rose to the 2nd Division for the first time in its 80-year history. Appearances include several in National Division 3 and a first participation in Division 2 South Zone in the 2009/2010 season. At youth level, the club won the District Championship in the 1999/2000 season for Initiates and had three appearances in the national category. Currently, the club operates in low-Kids, Initiates, Juveniles, Juniors, and Seniors, and runs a Soccer School for children aged 5 to 10. The club also teaches basketball and has fielded a team for over 30 years.
