History
In 2005, Clube Académico de Futebol, which had competed in four top division seasons in the 1980s, folded due to financial problems. That September, Clube Académico de Futebol and G.D. Farminhão signed a protocol that changed the latter's name to Académico de Viseu Futebol Clube, moved its headquarters to Viseu and its stadium to Estádio do Fontelo, and adopted the extinct club's logo and colours. The re-founded club began competing in the Viseu first regional league and gained promotion to the Terceira Divisão in 2007. In the 2008–09 season, a 2–0 win against Anadia FC secured promotion to the third division on goal difference, though the team was immediately relegated. Promotion to the Segunda Liga came in the 2012–13 season, followed by an 11th-place finish. In 2022–23, the club finished 4th in Liga Portugal 2, reached the Taça de Portugal quarter-finals, and the Taça de Liga semi-finals.
