The Violator is a secondary antagonist in the HBO series Todd McFarlane's Spawn. Michael Nicolosi provided the voice for his human form, while James Hanes voiced his demonic form. His true demonic shape appears only briefly across three episodes, whereas his human guise is present in most of the series. In the Robot Chicken episode "Celebutard Mountain," multiple Violators appear, voiced by Seth Green. In the 1997 live-action Spawn film, the Violator serves as the main antagonist, with John Leguizamo portraying his Clown form. His full demonic form was created using a mix of animatronic puppetry and CGI. He orchestrates an elaborate plan to train Al Simmons as an assassin for a military program and arranges for Simmons' superior, Jason Wynn, to betray and kill him. This betrayal drives a vengeful Simmons to accept the role of leader of Hell's army. Clown is resentful that Malebolgia chose Spawn as his general instead of him, and the two share a rivalry. Throughout the movie, Clown constantly tries to steer Simmons toward evil. To cause chaos and destruction, he persuades Wynn to implant a device in his own body that would trigger an apocalyptic disaster if Wynn dies, part of a scheme to make Simmons destroy the world. Simmons later confronts the Violator, who transforms into his true form and attacks. The Violator fails to kill Simmons because Cogliostro intervenes. Simmons then confronts Wynn and removes the device, but the Violator attacks again, dragging Spawn into a showdown in Hell. Simmons rejects his position as Hell's army leader and, with Cogliostro, fights the Violator back on Earth, ultimately decapitating him. The Violator's head, still conscious, retreats to Hell. The character also appears in the Japanese manga Shadows of Spawn, the Spawn spin-off miniseries Violator, and the crossover Violator/Badrock. In video games, the Violator is a boss in Spawn: The Eternal, Spawn: The SNES Game, Spawn: The Ultimate, Spawn on the Game Boy Advance, and Spawn: Armageddon, where he is voiced by Steve Blum. He is a playable character in Spawn: In the Demon's Hand, with John Stocker voicing his human form and Sean Sullivan voicing his demonic form. The Violator makes a cameo in Mortal Kombat 11 during one of Spawn's intros, where Spawn places his head on steel rebar, and also appears in Spawn's arcade mode ending.
