Tremor (character)

Fictional character biography

Richard Masullo served as muscle for his brother David and later for Tony Twist. When he wanted to leave the mob, Twistelli had him captured and sent to Germany, where he became the test subject for Project: TREMOR, the mafia's first supersoldier attempt and a predecessor to the OvertKill project. Experiments combining gene manipulation and cybernetics gave him a demonic appearance. The project was deemed a failure because Tremor retained his free will and felt disgust at his transformation, overriding any loyalty to the mafia. In response, Twist killed the rest of Tremor's family except David. Tremor soon broke free from the laboratory. Twist then told David that Tremor had slaughtered the family, including Richard, leading David to hunt Tremor worldwide. Tremor arrived in New York and learned of dealings between Spawn and Twist. While traveling, he had been destroying Twist's facilities, and he continued this in New York. He attacked Spawn, mistaking him for a mob ally, but they reached an understanding and teamed up against Twist. They fought through Twist's men and nearly captured him until David intervened and fought Tremor. Richard revealed himself to his brother, but David, overwhelmed by guilt and hatred, shot him repeatedly. Tremor's mutated, cybernetically enhanced body suffered only minor damage. Spawn, seeing only part of the confrontation, attacked David and severely injured his leg, enraging Tremor. This caused a falling out between the duo, leading to ongoing tension. The character has been the basis for several action figures. Tremor has been absent from the series for a long time, likely due to legal issues surrounding the Tony Twist character, as Tremor's role involves pursuing Twist. He made a cameo as a new member of the Image comics team The Brigade, and further details on this usage are being investigated.
