Publication history
The character Chapel could not be used in the Spawn movie because Rob Liefeld owned the rights. Todd McFarlane created Priest as a replacement and later retconned her to be Spawn's killer in the comics. Some of her background appears in Curse of the Spawn #12–14. She returned in Spawn #300, becoming She-Spawn and a main character of The Scorched.
In other media
Melinda Clarke portrayed Priest in the 1997 film Spawn. A planned sequel would have had her return as another Spawn, but the film lacked time and budget, so the storyline was incorporated into the comics. In the HBO animated series, Chapel is given the full name Jess Chapel as a composite. Priest appears in the 1999 video game Spawn, voiced by Diana Salles, and in Spawn: In the Demon's Hand, voiced by Erin McMurphy. McFarlane Toys has produced several action figures of Priest.
