Fictional character biography

Phillip Krahn, known as the Curse, wanted to command Heaven's forces against Hell. As a child, he gouged out his left eye and carved a horizontal gash across his right eye with a rusty fence. Later, he cut off his right arm to prove his devotion to God. He became rich, delved into the occult, and built a superior bionic replacement for his lost arm. Mistaking Spawn for a heavenly soldier, he tried to steal Spawn's power. Spawn destroyed the mechanical arm, beat him badly, and left him nailed to a wall in Rat City as a warning. The demon-hunter Sankser then tortured him. The Curse escaped to his mansion, where he plotted revenge and healed by fusing cybernetics with demonic parts. Believing his failure barred him from Heaven, he resolved to learn all of Hell's secrets, overthrow Malebolgia, and remake Hell as his own domain. In the series Curse of the Spawn, he helped Tony Twist before betraying him, then seemed to die when Twist's car struck him, gunfire erupted, and a chemical explosion consumed the lab. Because he has never appeared in Hell like other Spawn villains, and given his history of survival, he likely lived. He later returned during the Jim Downing storyline and again as a zombie in Spawn #290, controlled by Simmons.
