Biography
Hybrid got its start in March 2004 when Chus Maestro, who had played in One Last Word, Supra, and Another Kind Of Death, brought together musicians from Human Mincer and Wormed. Alongside Kike and Unai García, they crafted songs that became their debut EP, Beyond Undeniable Entropy, a six-song MCD of avant-garde, eclectic math metal. Deadwrong Records put it out in 2006. The band shared stages with Tool and Deftones at Festimad Sur'06, and also played alongside Napalm Death, Cephalic Carnage, Textures, Misery Index, Moho, Machetazo, and Looking For An Answer. In early 2007, they recorded their first full-length, The 8th Plague, at Sadman Studio. Alan Douches, known for work with Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan, mastered it, and Seldon Hunt, who did art for Isis and Neurosis, handled the artwork. Eyesofsound, an English label, released it in August 2008. More recently, the band has been working on new material, with a release planned for 2012. A live version of one upcoming song appeared on YouTube on March 28, 2011.
Musical style
Hybrid's music combines technical death metal and avant-garde extreme metal, merging influences from mathcore, grindcore, black metal, doom, crust, free jazz and Latin music. They employ odd time signatures, dissonances, polyrhythms, staccato riffing, blast beats, cuts, changes and contrasts to increase unpredictability. Their composing method is based on improvisation and creative freedom, and the band uses different vocal ranges.
